EU’s New E-Commerce Customs Rules: One Month In, How Are Shoppers Adjusting?

It’s been three weeks since the European Union’s new customs regulations took effect on July 1, 2026, and international shoppers are still getting used to the changes. The new rules, which apply to all 27 EU member states, introduced duty calculations based on 6-digit HS codes per product category — a significant shift from the previous system.

What Changed

Under the old system, low-value parcels often slipped through without duties. Now, each category of goods is assessed separately, with duties around €3 per category. This means a package containing electronics + clothing could face duties on both categories.

How Shopping Agents Are Responding

Most purchasing agents have adapted quickly. Services like 360beestbuy are currently charging a flat €3 per parcel during the transition period, which covers the new requirements. For shoppers, the added cost is minimal compared to the savings from buying directly from Chinese platforms. A €3 fee on a package that saves you €50-100 is still a great deal.

Switzerland Not Affected

Swiss shoppers can breathe easy — Switzerland is not an EU member, so routes remain unaffected and duty-free thresholds unchanged.
